Effect of environmental degradation on the economic development of Gulu District: case study of Unyama sub-county
Abstract
This study seeks to investigate the effect of environmental degradation on the economic development Gulu District, case study Unyama Sub County. The main objectives of the study were to identify the causes of environmental degradation, establish the effects of environmental degradation on the economic development of Gulu District and to come up with the strategies in which the people of Unyama can conserve their environment in Gulu District. The study uses survey design to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. The main tools of data collection will be the questionnaires and interview guides. The population of the study comprised the community development Assistant, community members and entrepreneurs. Environmental economics is concerned with how economic activities of producers and consumers affect the environment, in which we live. The environment supports economic activities in many ways. Due to excessive use of environment, many environmental problems have emerged. These environmental problems can undermine the goals of development in various ways. The environmental issues and their implications are important for future development of the world. This paper highlights various aspects of linkages between economy and environment. It also attempts to explain how population growth and poverty are interlinked with environment.
