The contribution of female filmmakers towards the development of the Ugandan film Industry; case study, Eleanor Nabwiso

Abstract

The following study is set to explore the contribution of female filmmakers towards the development of the Ugandan film industry and dives into the nuts and bolts of what makes up female representation in the industry. With our main focus placed upon one of Uganda’s outstanding female filmmakers, Nansibo Vaal Eleanor Nabwiso, this study is meant to bring to light the importance of females in the film industry and this is going to be seen through the various contributions that are to be stated. The data for this project was collected through a variety of methods required for data collection. Interviews were carried out on filmmakers such as; Eleanor Nabwiso and Matthew Nabwiso plus some Film students at Makerere University (Linda Dinah and Ngobi Ambrose) and the information that they gave me was productive. Secondary data was collected from newspapers, google search and other written documents. The purpose of this dissertation is to let women out there know that there is more in the film industry than just acting and several women have come out to prove that. Just like Mrs. Eleanor Nabwiso, one can grow from just acting to being a director and producer as well.
