    Abstract
This study examines the theme of disguise in folktales among the Banyankole basically the forms of disguise and how different characters use disguise to deceive their fellows for personal gains. Research shows that folktales have various themes, characters and that folktales entail various literary styles. I used interviews and note taking as my methods of data collection and the major source of data were the primary sources that is citizens of the Ankole Region. I recorded the data and later used the translation method since there was need to translate the folktales from Runyankole to English.Although folktales have avariety of themes, I choose to carry out my study on the theme of disguise since studies on other themes like marriage, child upbringing have already been carried out. Through this I was able to discover the different forms of disguise and how characters use disguise to achieve their needs.
