Socio economic effects of substance use among female youths in Nakifuma-Naggalama town council
Abstract
This dissertation is an account of the study on socio economic Effects of substance use among female youths in Nakifuma-Naggalama town council. Unlike other studies which have focused mainly on men who abuse drugs, this study focused on women mainly female youths who engage in su substance abuse.
The research adopted a cross sectional study design. It utilized both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and key informant interviews. Quantitative data analysis took a descriptive process. Frequencies for various variables are presented. Qualitative Data was analyzed through thematic analysis.
Findings revealed that female youths have interactional challenges with their parents and closet peers. The study also found out that female youths engage In a number of crimes for example prostitution and theft. Further, female youths are unmotivated to engage in productive work and those that do have poor decision making capabilities.
The study recommends that government, policy makers and other concerned agencies update existing interventions so as to address the unique needs of female youths.
