Abstract
The study asses the competitiveness of diversified post harvest handling of milk in kyankwanzi district. The study identified a gap in profits among different farmers and addressed the reasons for the difference in profits the study aims at find the profits among different dairy products and the marketing channels used by different farmers..The study purposively selected kyakwanzi since its main activity is dairy farming. A cross sectional design was used as a research design. Sample of 60 farmers were randomly selected .the farmers were interviewed using structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics was used to summarise social economic characteristics of farmers and income statement was used to calculate gross profits of farmers among different dairy products. Chi-square was used to find relationship between marketing channels and profits. The results showed there was a relationship between profits and the marketing channels .the results also showed different products had different profits. Ghee, bongo and yoghurt had more profits compared to milk. The farm gate earned more profits for yoghurt and bongo while ghee earned more profits using collection centre.
The study concluded that value addition earns more profits compared to milk. They also had more profits. The study recommends more value addition on the milk to earn more profits
