The charcoal production value chain in Kasagama sub-county, Lyantonde district

Abstract

This research dealt with charcoal production value chain in Kasagama S/C of Lyantonde District. This study emanates from the fact that charcoal production value chain is a source of income to many people in Lyantonde District especially Kasagama S/C. However, the inefficient production methods used lead to more tree-cut and low production in dry lands of Kasagama S/C. To be able to deal with unsustainable production, the efficient charcoal production methods have to be for sustainable production in the area. Studies have been recommended which have prompted this research. The specific objectives of the study were to document estimation of charcoal production in Kasagama S/C, document the charcoal value chain nodes, and document the challenges and solutions to along the charcoal value chain.
