Factors affecting graded coffee in Uganda a case study of the national union of coffee agribusiness and farm enterprises Masaka and Kitgum districts
Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the factors affecting graded coffee in Masaka and Kitgum district. The research objectives that guided this study were; to study the relationship between rainfall and graded coffee in Masaka and Kitgum districts, to study effect of temperature on graded coffee in Masaka and Kitgum districts, to study the trend of graded coffee in Masaka and Kitgum districts and to study the relationship between graded and ungraded coffee. The study used secondary data from the review of the comparison of the NUCAFE graded coffee reports and the weather statistics of Masaka district and Kitgum district from 2002 to 2022. Qualitative data was thematically analyzed. Further study findings revealed that ungraded coffee has an impact on graded coffee for an increase in the amount of ungraded coffee increases the amount of graded coffee in both districts. The researcher recommends that Kitgum district should increase on its rainfall production through activities like growing more tree and could also practice more irrigation farming to improve on the amount of graded coffee produced in the district.
