Peer pressure, stress, and substance abuse among youth in Kasubi-Kawaala

Abstract

This research was aimed examining the relationship between Peer Pressure, Stress, and Substance Abuse among Youth in Kasubi-Kawaala . A correlational study design that quantitative and descriptive was adopted to establish the relationship between the variables. Total of 419 adolescents, both male and female participated in the study. Data collected was analyzed using statistical package for psychology [SPSS],where Pearson correlation co efficient [r] was used to test the significance of hypotheses .The study revealed that there was a negative significant relationship between social and depression in adolescents, implying that adolescents who get social support are less likely to manifest depressive symptoms ; The study also revealed that there was a relationship between social support and self-esteem among adolescents. The study further showed that there was a relationship between social support and self-esteem among adolescents.
