Health monitoring system for oil cooled distribution transformers using IoT
Abstract
The increasing demand for reliable and efficient power distribution systems has led to the
widespread use of oil-cooled distribution transformers. However, ensuring the optimal functioning
and health of these transformers is crucial to prevent unexpected failures and downtime The
proposed system leverages the capabilities of IoT devices to collect real-time data from various
sensors installed within the transformers. These sensors monitor critical parameters such as
temperature, oil level, voltage, and current. The collected data is transmitted wirelessly to a central
monitoring unit, where it is processed and analyzed. The monitoring unit employs IoT to detect
and identify potential faults or anomalies in the transformer's operation. By continuously analyzing
the collected data, the system can provide early warning signs of impending failures, enabling
proactive maintenance and reducing the risk of costly breakdowns. Additionally, the system can
generate detailed reports and alerts for maintenance personnel, facilitating prompt intervention and
efficient resource allocation.
