Knowledge of MRI safety among radiography students at Makerere University College of Health Sciences

Abstract

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a developing imaging modality in Uganda with about 10 MRI scanners in the country with more expected according to the country’s development plan for the next 5 years. Makerere University College of health sciences produces radiography students each year whom are expected to be part of the work force to operate these scanners. This baseline study was aimed at assessing the knowledge or MRI safety among radiography students at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. Using a cross-sectional research design, a self-administered survey was used. A pre-piloted questionnaire was distributed to radiography students at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The responses were analyzed and conclusion drawn. Most of the students had good knowledge on MRI safety. Students were found to have better knowledge on MRI safety hazards than on MRI screening. Students in upper years were found to have more knowledge than those in lower years.
