Role of youth organizations in empowering the youths in Uganda: case study Youth Alive Uganda.
Abstract
The study was conducted on the role of youth organizations in empowering the youths in Uganda. The primary objective of the study was to examine the role of youth organizations in empowering the youths in Kamwokya area of Uganda. The other objectives were: To identify the types of skills and knowledge that Youth Alive Uganda provides to the youth to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship prospects, to find out how Youth Alive Uganda facilitates social and economic engagement among youths in Kamwokya and to establish how Youth Alive Uganda fosters active citizenship and community participation among the youth in Kamwokya. The sample size was 18 respondents who were the youths chosen from Kamwokya community and Youth Alive Uganda administrators. The research employed quantitative data collection method. Qualitative data was gathered through interviews and questioners with the youths who are the benefiters and Youth Alive Uganda administrators.
The study found out that the contributions of Youth Alive Uganda in the role of youth organization in empowering the youths in Uganda. Youth Alive Uganda emphasis on advocacy and positive change equips youth to address critical issues like unemployment, limited access to education and health services, HIV/AIDS and others affecting their communities. By imparting advocacy skills and supporting youth led campaigns, YAU empowers youths to become responsible and influential members of their communities. The overall findings showed that YAU’s holistic approach to youth empowerment stands as a beacon of hope for Uganda’s youths. The dedication to skills development, social engagement, and advocacy reflects their commitment to fostering meaningful change and sustainable development in Kamwokya and beyond.
