Anti theft location based laptop tracking system

Abstract

Currently there is a problem of difficulty in tracking laptops which has increased the rate of laptop theft around the city due to lack of a well-defined means of curbing down the practice. Our main objective was to to develop an anti-theft location-based laptop tracking system that can be used to aid tracking of stolen laptops. For the success and understanding of the system, qualitative and quantitative data was collected through interview, observation, questionnaires and documentation review. The system was implemented using a number of tools and technologies such as HTML5, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and the system was designed using context diagrams and DFDs. Data analysis was done using SPSS and the findings showed that whereas most of the respondents both the laptop owners and security agencies were willing to welcome the use of Anti-theft location-based laptop tracking system. Some desirable features were suggested for inclusion including real time tracking. The developed System eliminates laptop theft though providing a convenient platform where a laptop owner initiates a request to find his device through receiving a link from the chip installed that opens with the location of the stolen laptop.
