Development of prototype progress tracking software for construction works
Abstract
The current progress tracking techniques used in Uganda today are backward and require a
lot of hardcopies of data collection and storage. This is very costly to the client and the
contactor, and requires a lot of back-and-forth movement of the project managers involved.
Data manipulation is made possible since most there is no central data storage, hard copy data
can be replaced without logging and a lot of clutter and disorganisation of office work spaces.
This study is meant to embed and test an up-to-date progress tracking techniques which is the
use of automated progress tracking software to reduce data manipulation and clutter of
project managers office space due to many documentations required in the construction
process.
This report will also document the development of the automated progress tracking software,
with major emphasis being with bridge construction under the Uganda National Road
Authority. It will also document the review of the software among the chosen bridge sites, it
also goes on to recommend the features that can be later enhanced or added in order to
simplify progress tracking among the remote construction works.
