Abstract
This final year report is a compilation of the research done on the topic, “Assessing the need
for effective construction waste management in the construction industry of Uganda.
Construction waste is a major concern on almost all construction sites in Uganda which need
special attention due to the adverse effects that come with it. These adverse effects are forcing
construction stake holders to find solutions to the rising construction waste production and
compilation and how best to handle it. Seventy-four (74) selected project clients, consultants
and contractors in Kampala city were issued with well-structured questionnaires to get their
views on the need for effective construction waste management in the construction industry
of Uganda.
The analysis of data was done using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, 2015
version). Descriptive and analytical scientific methods (frequencies and percentages) were as
well used. This research basically analyzed field data to draw conclusions on the numerous
methods available methods of construction waste management.
The research highlighted the challenges basically faced during the implementation of
construction waste practices in addition to identifying the benefits of the practice plus
proposing possible ways to improve to improve construction waste management and ranked
them.
The research mainly focused on construction sites in Kampala city as a number of
construction activities can vividly be seen in the city.
