This research looks at the essential elements of a records retention schedule and offers recommendations for creating one, including less legal and regulatory risk and enhanced information management. The study's goal was to create a retention plan for our company outlining how long various data should be retained and how they should be disposed of at Save the Children Wakiso. The objectives of the study were to; find out the categories of records at Save the children Uganda Wakiso regional offices; examine the records retention practices at save the children Wakiso; find out the challenges associated with records retention practices at Save the children Wakiso; design a records retention schedule for records at Save the children Wakiso regional offices; and recommend strategies to improve records retention at save the children Wakiso.The study adopted a qualitative approach to data collecting while using a case study research design. Data were gathered using observational and interview techniques. The manager of the organization, the staff, and additional volunteers all took part in the study. The study used a case study research design while adopting a qualitative approach to data collection. Data was obtained through the use of interviews and observation methods. The study established that save the children wakiso captures and tracks a number of personnel records which include; job application documents, memorandums, interview documents and reports, acceptance letters, contract terms and conditions, leave forms, resignation letters, bank loan documents, which exist in both paper and electronic formats. There are various personnel records at save the children wakiso which include; registration of all the personnel records, folioing of personnel records, filling of personnel records, storage of the personnel records and maintaining security of personnel records at save the children. The study also revealed different loopholes in the personnel records retention and disposition schedule at which include; incompliance from the staff, delay with the files, inadequate backups, insecurity of records, misplacement of record files and the lack of a personnel records tracking and retrieval policy. The study established the measures for improving records capturing and tracking practices at the organisation and these include; routine personal check on records while they are in transit, staff training about the principles of records management, regular file audit/ census, allocating more funds into enhancing xii this system, employ more trained records staff and designing a human resources records capturing and tracking system .
