Assessment of the negative impact of economic development on the environment in Uganda
Abstract
Just like environmental changes can have effects on economic development in a country, economic development is seen to pose the highest threats and to carry along the most causes of environmental destruction. The greatest challenge today revolves around promoting economic development on one hand and ensuring environmental protection on the other. This study examines the impacts and as such the negative effects of economic development on the environment. There are various laws, regulations, policies, and programs that advocate for enhanced development in Uganda. However, the increased implementation of economic development destroys the environment in the long run causing pollution, desertification, and deforestation. This increasing challenge has brought up the need for regulating the economic development activities so as to ensure environmental protection. Ensuring environmental protection has taken forms of legislation that's putting up various laws, policies and regulations, litigating that is courts advocating for environmental protection, organizations aimed at conserving the environment among others. All these address the environmental arising issues.
This increasing environmental destruction for which developmental trends are responsible brings up the need to conduct this research which aims at analyzing the negative effects of economic development on the environment in Uganda.
