    Relationship between violence against children and school performance in Makerere University Primary School Kawempe Division Kampala Uganda

    Abstract
    The purpose of this study is to relationship between violence against children and school in Makerere University Primary School Kawempe Division Kampala Uganda. The study specifically aimed to find out the prevalence of violence against children in Makerere University Primary School, the forms of violence against children in Makerere University Primary school and to assess the relationship between violence against children and school performance. The study used a cross-sectional research design employing both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The study covered a sample of 61 respondents who were all primary six pupils. Quantitative data were collected using a structured questionnaire which was self-administered questionnaire. The study findings revealed various forms of violence experienced by primary six pupils these include sexual violence (33%), physical violence (61%), emotional violence (13%) and witness violence (80%).The study revealed the association between violence against children and school performance. From the analysis there is insignificant association between the different forms of violence and academic performer pupils from the above table, insignificant association between different forms of violence and academic performance of pupils since p values (0.467, 0.478, 0.198, and 0.661) for grade, physical violence, emotional violence, sexual violence respectively greater than 0.05 at 5% level of significance.
