Students' responses to the 2023 guild election policies in Makerere University

Abstract

A vast literature examines the policies around elections as compared to responses towards them. While this is important, this dissertation investigates the responses to the 2023 Guild Election policies. It also discusses the effectiveness of the particular election policies. Lot of literature has been reviewed on the election policies and their effect. The study was conducted to examine the students' responses to the Makerere University Guild Election policies in 2023.The study relied on the qualitative research approach. Data was collected by interviews with students of Makerere University, observation of the Gild Elections of 2023, Focus group discussions of 8-12 students and documentary reviews. The fourth chapter presents the presentation and interpretation of findings in which the election policies and the responses towards them are closely analyzed. The possible results include students protests against the election policies which they believe are unfair and need to be revised
