How youth from disadvantaged background in Uganda have manage to exploit dancehall music as a tool for positive social change
Abstract
This research report covers how youth from disadvantaged background have utilized dancehall music as a tool for their positive social change. Just like other things that add meaning to youths’ lives, I looked to explore how dancehall music genre have been exploited by the youth from disadvantaged background to bring positive changes like wealth, socializing with people and accepting God as their savior.
The research shows that for years most Ugandans had less knowledge about dancehall music and so when a youth would be in need of joining dancehall they would be considered as a spoilt child and this mindset has been slightly erased but, in most villages, still believe in it. Therefore, this research serves to prove to people that dancehall music can also be exploited for a positive change.
This research recommended that parents should step up to support their children’s talents even those talented in dancehall music not just giving them what they actually do not want this is why there are school dropouts and mishandling of fees by students in Uganda.
