The theme of male chauvinism; a case study of selected Runyankole Folktales.

Abstract

The Study examined the theme of male chauvinism in selected Runyankole folk tales. The study was guided by two main objectives; 1. To investigatethe theme male chauvinism as portrayed in selected Runyankole folktales and 2. Its impact on the society. The study was conducted in kanungu district, masya village western ward in the western region of Uganda. Different methodologies have been employed make work effective and among these are; qualitative approach of data collection, interviews field study and many others to facilitate the study. The study in chapter four acknowledge the folktales with a depiction of cloth features like the opening styles, the ways they bare narrated and how characters are portrayed Whatever happened in folktales was not told on a human scale but rather in super dimensional style. The study investigated chauvinistic characteristics in folktales to draw the listeners of such folktales into certain focal point and agreement that chauvinism exists with male’s belief that they are super heroes in controlling society. It also goes ahead to investigate gender roles which have partially made men to look more superior to their wives The study concludes that male chauvinism was a one way of men ruling over women in all the hemispheres of life such as spheres of life such as politics, social and economic welfares. Finally the study recommends the need to consider women's contribution to the wellbeing of society since they all also play s big role such as nurturing of children, looking after homes, taking good care of their men and many others. The study also recommends the credibility of women's through appreciation and recognition of their contribution in the development of our society.
