Abstract
This research is set to analyse irony in selected Madi folktales and its effectiveness in bringing out the meanings in the stories. This research discovers that irony plays a big role in presenting social realities and the personality of the protagonist Mr. Hare in the Madi folktales. The representation of Mr. Hare highlights the underlying meaning and passes on moral lessons in all the different types, and genres of folktales.
