Challenges the female gender face in the field of sculpture and fabrication: case study of the challenges female students face at Margaret trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art in the sculpture and fabrication class
Abstract
This study explores the challenges faced by female students in the Sculpture and Fabrication class at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art. Sculpture and fabrication, a field often perceived as physically demanding and male-dominated, presents unique obstacles for female students that can hinder their academic and professional progress. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, this research identifies key challenges such as gender stereotypes, inadequate access to resources, lack of mentorship, safety concerns in workshops, and balancing academic work with societal expectations. The findings highlight the need for institutional support, inclusive teaching approaches, and tailored interventions to empower female students. This study aims to contribute to the discourse on gender equity in art and design education while advocating for strategies to foster a more supportive and inclusive environment.
