The study investigated the challenges affecting the learning of PE in secondary schools in Uganda, a case study of selected secondary schools in Wakiso district. The research was guided by three key objectives; to assess the challenges learners face in learning of physical education, to find out teachers‟ and learners‟ attitudes towards PE and to assess teacher’s preparedness in teaching physical education lessons. Data was collected by using an observation checklist and administering semi structured questionnaires to PE students from various selected secondary schools in Wakiso District. The findings revealed that, the challenges faced during the learning of PE were; majorly Less time for PE (74.0%), inadequate equipment ( balls, mats, rackets, ropes) (56.0%), inadequate facilities (Courts, Field, Swimming pool) (53.5%) followed by lack of PE reading materials(37.5%) and lastly not enough trained PE teachers (<3) (29.0%). Additionally, both teachers and students exhibited mixed attitudes towards PE. The results showed that, majority of the students (88.0%) were positively impacted by the Physical education curriculum, with a minority (2.0%) negatively impacted and (10.0%) were completely not impacted by the learning of physical education. The report concludes with recommendations to address the above challenges to improve on the effectiveness of PE programs in secondary schools.en_US
