Exploring the challenges and opportunities for attaining decent employment among Burundian urban refugees in Makindye division Kampala, Uganda
Abstract
This research dissertation explores the challenges faced by Burundian urban refugees in attaining decent employment in Makindye Division, Kampala. The study aims to investigate the barriers that hinder the employment prospects of this vulnerable population group in a city characterized by economic opportunities and challenges. By employing a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews, the research delves into the unique challenges faced by Burundian urban refugees, such as legal restrictions, discrimination, language barriers, lack of documentation, and limited access to information and support services. Through a thorough analysis of the data collected, the dissertation provides insights into the complex interplay of factors that impede the ability of Burundian urban refugees in Makindye Division to secure decent employment opportunities. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the specific needs and circumstances of this marginalized group, thereby informing policy interventions and advocacy efforts aimed at enhancing their economic integration and well-being. Ultimately, this research seeks to shed light on the lived experiences of Burundian urban refugees in Kampala and to advocate for more inclusive and supportive employment practices to improve their prospects for decent work and livelihoods.
