dc.description.abstractThis thesis entails a study that explored residual chlorine modelling in the Makerere University Distribution System, aiming to understand the intricate dynamics of hydraulic conditions, and the rate of decay of chlorine. This study endeavoured to tackle pressing issues related to residual chlorine concentrations in distribution systems by creating prediction models that can identify and measure rate of decay of chlorine. The objectives of this study were to construct models for residual chlorine in relation to distance and time, evaluate the effects of hydraulics on residual chlorine, and validate the models. The study, which acknowledges its limits, focuses on a particular metropolitan distribution system while taking into account a number of variables. EPANET software was used for systematic modelling as part of the technique, and field data used for validation. The results are validated models of residual chlorine as well as insights into hydraulic factors. The study was carried out over a span of four months and this included data gathering, model building, analysis, and validation. The output of this study is residual chlorine model’s dependant on distance and time that have the ability to detect, quantify the rate of decay of chlorine of water in distribution systems as well as contribute to the advancement of residual chlorine modelling by providing useful tools and insights.en_US
