    Abstract
Cultural tourism has been embraced world over because of its sustainability concept on which it runs and there its existence always presents a lot of opportunities for the local people therefore the local communitys participation in cultural activities is very vital to the success or failure of any cultural tourism destination. This research looked at the role of Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom in promoting cultural tourism in Hoima city, assessed the benefits together with the challenges that hindered the kingdom in promoting cultural tourism. It further evaluated the level of participation in cultural tourism activities. Data were collected using questionnaire and interview methods. It was later analyzed using MS Excel and MS word. The results showed that the kingdom has a number of activities such as the Empango ceremony, Empango Run, Kinyoro Naming Ceremony, and cultural performances such as dance and drama that promotes cultural tourism. Preservation of cultural heritage, organizing cultural events, and collaboration with local communities are some of the strategies applied to promote cultural tourism. However, the kingdom faces a number of challenges that range from infrastructural limitations to insufficient funding and the need for greater community engagement. This study therefore recommends for Diversifying funding sources by exploring multiple avenues such as traditional investors, loans, venture capital, grants, and strategic partnerships to ensure stable financial foundation. Cost reduction by looking for ways to cut unnecessary expenses to improve the profitability of the kingdom through budgetary control, value analysis, renegotiating contracts, among others. Public-private partnerships by collaborating with private entities can help bridge funding gaps and bring in expertise for efficient infrastructure development. Community involvement by engaging local communities in planning and decision making processes ensures that infrastructure projects meet actual needs and gain public support. Sustainable practices by incorporating sustainable and resilient practices in infrastructure development can mitigate environmental impact and enhance long term viability.
