Challenges faced in the implementation of accessibility standards for persons with disabilities in commercial buildings in Kampala
Abstract
The prevalence of disabilities in Uganda, particularly in Kampala, underscores the urgent need for accessible infrastructure. Despite legal mandates and international conventions advocating for PWD rights, commercial buildings in Kampala's Central Business District (KCBD) largely remain non-compliant with accessibility standards, as reported by the Uganda Human Rights Commission (2016). The consequences are profound, hindering PWDs' access to essential services and economic opportunities.
