Design of Wireless Charging Lanes
Abstract
Wireless charging technologies have now made it possible to charge while driving, which pro-
vides an opportunity to boost the market adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). The availability of wireless charging facilities alleviates the problems of long charging times, limited range on a single charge and low energy density of EV batteries.,. For the consumers, it could also lead to a reduction in battery size which reduces the overall cost and weight of the vehicle. The goal of this project was to assess the feasibility of wireless charging lanes on the arterial roads of Kam- pala. The work done has been carried out mainly in three different stages. First,we determine
a selection criteria and identify candidate locations for wireless charging lanes. Afterwards, two key economic parameters of the infrastructure, the battery size and transmitter coil placement are optimized using MATLAB. In the third stage,a sensitivity analysis is performed to study the performance of the two key economic system parameters.
