Digital technology and how it’s affecting design variables in graphic design institutions. (MTSIFA)
Abstract
Graphic design has experienced a notable decline in terms of design thinking, processes, and adherence to foundational principles and elements due to growing reliance on digital technology (Kelsall, 2001). The central issue is that many contemporary graphic designers bypass traditional techniques and essential design variables, relying instead on digital tools to complete their tasks. This shift has led to a disregard for the structured design processes that once defined the field. If this problem persists, the integrity and richness of graphic design as a discipline may be compromised. Ultimately, the question remains: is the uncontrolled dependence on digital technology in design a growing threat, and how can this trend be addressed?
