    Abstract
This is my final year project at Makerere university doing BSED. It focuses on the design and construction of an automatic doorbell using a motion sensor. Doorbells have evolved significantly since their invention in the early 1800s—from mechanical systems and push-button electric bells to modern wireless and automatic systems. Traditional systems often relied on manual pressing of buttons, which could be inconvenient, especially at night. This project uses a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor to detect a person approaching the door. When motion is detected, the bell rings automatically. This improves convenience and security while addressing issues like difficulty locating push buttons in the dark and false alarms from pets. By using locally available, low-cost components, the system is energy-efficient, reliable, and applicable in homes and public buildings, especially in developing countries
