Comparing the performance of Pinus caribaea seedlings Mycorrhiza mixed in rooting media and Mycorrhiza top dressing

Abstract The study was carried out from Nation Tree seed center namanve green house to evaluate the performance of Pinus caribaea seedlings in the nursery. A completely randomized design was used with two treatments and a control each replicated 80 times. Treatment 1 consisted of seedlings with mycorrhiza inoculated soils and treatment 2 consisted of forest soils with seedlings top dressed with mycorrhiza. Measurement of seedling performance was based on height and root collar diameter. Measurements of Seedling height and root collar diameter were done at 2weeks intervals, starting from one month after sowing date. The seedling survival study was done at the end of the experiment and the survival percentages were obtained by taking a total count of the seedlings that were alive at the end of the experiment. The general performance of seedlings was best in treatment 1. Analysis of variance showed no significant difference in the heights (P= 0.400) and diameters (P= 0.247) in the inoculation methods. The highest survival of seedling was obtained from treatment 1 and the analysis of variance showed a significant difference of seedling survival in the treatments (P=0.017).from the findings it is recommended that mycorrhiza mixed in rooting medium (treatment 1) is the best method to use in rising pinus caribaea seedlings.
