Transformational Leadership, Employee Engagement and Job Satisfaction among Workers of National Water and Sewerage Corporation
Abstract
There is an increasing fear by employers due to the transformational leadership
expressed among employees in the organisation. This may be attributed to perceptions of
leadership which do no align with employee‟s engagement thus creating disparity. Thus this
results into job satisfaction among employees.
The problem this brings for organizations lies in identifying how they could create the
type of working environment in their organizations that fosters the psychological mechanisms
that deliver excellent performance and mitigate employee intentions to quit.
Much of the research on turnover has been focused on developing conceptual models
of the turnover process and on identifying variables associated therewith, such as satisfaction,
commitment and intention to quit (Elangoven, 2001). However, there is little evidence in the
literature on the relationship between employee engagement, transformational leadership, and
job satisfaction. This study therefore aims to explore this relationship with the aim of
providing valuable information on the type of practices that an organization could focus on to
foster an environment that enables optimal performance and mitigates the harboring of
satisfaction among its employees.
