Designing a students online registration system for Kibuli Secondary School Library
Abstract
The study aimed at designing an Online Registration System for Kibuli Secondary School (KSS) Library in order to improve on the services offered by the library to its users. The objectives of the study were to; assess the existing students registration system used at Kibuli Secondary School Library, to review the online student’s registration systems related literature so as to identify the requirements for designing an online registration system for students at KSS Library, design an online system for the registration of students at KSS Library, and implement the students online registration system for KSS Library.
The study adopted a case study research design that employed mixed qualitative and quantitative data collection methods of questionnaires, interview and observation methods. Sixty Eight (68) questionnaires were purposively distributed to the students from both O-level and A-level and the interviewed two (2) librarians from Kibuli Secondary school library.
The research findings showed that the library use a manual system for the registration of users in the school library. The challenges of the system include; long queue and tiresomeness, making Long Queues during registration process, the students informed the researcher that they face, tiresomeness of the registration system, information over load, time consuming, inadequate funds, time consuming and limited capital, and insecurity of the library records. The challenges presented above critically show the need for the Online Registration System at Kibuli Secondary School Library.
The study concluded that there is need for an online Registration System at KSS Library. It was recommended the school administration to adopt the proposed Online Registration System for a library to be implemented to support the registration of students at KSS. Other recommendations were; information needs assessment, provision of guidelines to operate the system, provision of correct information and training the library staff.
