    Abstract
The opportunities and hindrance towards the development of cultural tourism, the case study of Koboko district was studied from the month of March to May 2018. The study was conducted to identify the potential cultural sites, to examine the local people‟s attitude towards preservation of culture for tourism and to document the hindrance towards the development of cultural tourism in Koboko district. Data was collected using questionnaires interviews with two categories of respondents that include the local people and the cultural site management and observation was a major methodology that was used also. It was found that there are some potential cultural sites that can be developed for cultural tourism experience in the district. In addition the local people had a positive response towards developing the Kakwa culture for tourism though there were some hindrances that couldn't support the tourism activities in the district, some of the hindrances include; lack of knowledge about tourism, culture alteration, inadequate support among others. It is concluded that though these cultural sites exist, it needs more involvement of the stakeholders for better development of the cultural tourism sector in the district.
