Peer pressure, locus of control and substance abuse among adolescents

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the relationship between peer pressure, locus of control and substance abuse among adolescents in school with in Wakiso district. The study is targeting one hundred (100) students in mostly those in lower secondary between the ages of 13 and 19 of both sex and among all religions. The specific objectives of the study included establishing a relationship between peer pressure and substance abuse, finding out the relationship between locus of control and substance abuse and establishing a connection between peer pressure and locus of control. Questionnaires to measure peer pressure, locus of control and substance abuse were administered to 100 school going adolescents using convenience sampling technique. The hypotheses where tested using the Analysis of variance (ANOVA).The findings concluded that there was no significant difference between peer pressure and locus of control, no significant difference between peer pressure and substance abuse and no significant difference between locus of control and substance abuse.
