Impacts of environmental degradation on tourism attractions and facilities in Kibalinga sub-county, Mubende district
Abstract
The study set out the impact of environmental degradation on tourism attractions and facilities in Kibalinga sub county, Mubende district and documented the available information that could be basis for protection of tourism attractions and facilities in Kibalinga Sub County.
Data was collected from 60 respondents using questionnaire interviews, 60 of whom were members of the local community households. All the respondents came from the eight villages which include Kibalinga, Lusalira, Buterevu, Kinyansande, Kamwasa, Kisombwa, Ntunda and Kissuja found in Kibalinga Sub County, Mubende district.
The study identified tourist activities for example forest walks in Buterevu forest, community walks in Lusalira village, mountain climbing, bird watching and praise and worship on Nakayima tree as the opportunities for tourism development and improvement of peoples standards of living in terms of selling goods and services to tourists. Low levels of development in terms of roads, hotels, hospitals, insecurity in the area, and unemployment to local community member and climate change were found to be the effect of destroying the tourism attractions and facilities in Kibalinga Sub County.
