    Abstract
The main objective of the study was to assess the impact on new food policy adopted by public Universities in Uganda a case study of Makerere University with a purpose of finding out if the students are food secure. There were specific objectives as regards establishing relationships of being food secure and sex of the student, money given to students, college of the student and hall of residence of the student followed by testing the statistical significance of the relationships. The target area was halls of residence were 5 halls of residence were selected and 400 students were interviewed with an aid of questionnaire.400 respondents were interviewed by simple random sampling and data was captured by use of Epidata later exported to STATA to test hypotheses as regards the specific objectives of the study. It was found out that there is a relationship between food security and money given to students by the University, hall of residence because the probability values were less than 0.05. It was further found out that there was no relationship between food security and college of the student since the probability values were greater than 0.05. The University should increase the money given to students for meals to a reasonable amount in order to enable students to be able to take all the meals in a day. Students should also make small savings for example during holidays in order to have some extra money for meals in case the money given by the University does not sustain them for the whole semester
