    Strategies for improving Library and Information Services at City High School, Kampala

    Abstract
    The purpose of the project was to carry out strategies for improving library and information services in City High School library with the purpose of developing strategies that will improve on the way LIS services are provided to the library users. The objectives of the project were to determine the library and information services provided in City High School library, assess the challenges faced in providing LIS services in City High School library, and develop strategies for improving LIS services in City High School. The study used quantitative and qualitative research designs and the purposive and stratified sampling method was used. Interview, questionnaire, and observation were methods of data collection. Findings from the study revealed that City High School library has restricted library hours, limited space in the library, loan period is limited, does not provide current awareness services, lack of motivation of librarians, circulation of the library materials is delayed, does not provide user education services and lack of sitting facilities. The study concluded that qualified personnel should be employed, motivation of librarians, adopting new technologies and also librarians, students and teachers have to maintain the importance and relevance of the school library as the center of academic activities of the school. The study recommended that the school increases funds given to the library, train librarians, purchasing more computers, providing space, communicating with library users, employ qualified personnel and improving on infrastructure in order to improve on the library and information services in city high school.
