    Abstract
The assessment of a closed dumpsite and investigation of its impact on surface water quality integrity is very crucial to human health and environment. This research work was aimed at assessing the different dumpsite in Bufumira Island and its impact on surface water quality in the vicinity of the dumpsite.Water samples were collected from four different locations on the dumpsite at the surface, each samples between knee and waist depth (approximately 3- feet), and the minimum of two water samples was collected at each station identified. And the collected samples were examined for pH. The results showed that closed dumpsite has serious effect(impact) on the surface water quality. The pH values ranged from 5.53-6.24. Implying that the surface water in the study area was acidic. The results of the surface water samples fall below the guideline for drinking water by World Health Organization which is 6.5 to 8.5and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
