    Evaluating mechanical properties of concrete made by partial replacement of aggregates with recycled glass

    Abstract
    This research project sought to investigate the structural performance of glass as a partial replacement for both fine and coarse aggregates, with great focus placed on determining the compressive strength and fresh concrete properties subjected to varying percentages of both fine and coarse aggregates. The first chapter entails a descriptive introduction of the research project with the inspiration of the observation that the reusability and recyclability of glass as a material is indeed undisputed with a high capability of incorporation into the concrete mix design. The objectives of the research topic are listed; which mainly emphasize the determination of the workability and the compressive strengths of concrete with varying percentages of glass waste replacements. The literature review acknowledges the research works done by other professionals in the discipline of civil engineering as regard to the study of glass being in cooperating into concrete are listed therein. In this, aspects that were considered in their research are noted; however, this acts to provide us with areas that remained unattended to by their respective researchers as well. Our independent field observations regarding the topic are also included therein. The methodology presents the procedures and methods through which data was collected. Materials used in this research project are listed and these are matched with the need for their incorporation as well as their respective sources of acquisition. The process of preparing the materials for use is also described here as well as the mix designs adopted to govern the mix proportions. Fresh concrete property tests, casting of concrete cubes and hardened concrete property test procedures are described therein. The results of the executed tests are analysed to which suitable recommendations and conclusions were made.
