    Socioeconomic status, depression and domestic violence among pregnant women at Kasangati Centre (IV) Hospital Gayaza

    Abstract
    The purpose of the study was to find out the relationship between socio-economic status, depression and domestic violence among pregnant women at Kasangati Centre (IV) Hospital. The study intended to achieve the following objectives; to find out whether socio-economic status influence depression among pregnant women, depression and domestic violence and also to examine the relationship between socio-economic status and domestic violence. A correlational study design was used in the study to establish the relationship between socio-economic status, depression and domestic violence among pregnant women at Kasangati Centre (IV) Hospital. The study used a sample of 95 respondents (pregnant women) who were adopted using simple sampling technique. Data was therefore collected using self-administered questionnaire and was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) was used to test the significance of the hypotheses. The results of the study indicated that there is a negative significant relationship between socioeconomic status and depression. The study further concluded that depression among pregnant women is considerably associated with domestic violence. The study also revealed that there is a negative significant relationship between socioeconomic status and domestic. It was recommended that the Government should create more jobs to reduce on the increasing unemployment rate among women to control the low levels of socioeconomic status and also to sensitize people about the negative outcome of domestic violence. Non-Government organizations should encourage husbands to take their responsibilities as heads of the family.
