Assessing the storage of teacher records at Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) Kampala, Uganda
Abstract
A study was conducted to assess storage of teacher records at MoES. The purpose of this study was to assess the storage of teacher records at Ministry of Education and Sports in order to recommend appropriate storage practices that can improve on the organization, teacher records management in attempts to attain its goals. The objectives were; to examine the storage of teacher records at Ministry of Education and Sports, to assess the security mechanisms applied to teacher records at Ministry of Education and Sports, to determine the challenges affecting the proper storage and security of teacher records at MoES and to propose and recommend proper storage and security mechanisms for teacher records at Ministry of Education and Sports. The study adopted a case study design. Data was collected using document analysis, observations and interviews methods. The participants were purposively selected. The study anticipated 20 respondents but 15 participated. The study found out that application, appointment, confirmation letters, performance appraisals and leave forms are the types of teacher records from processes like recruitment and appointment, induction and initial training, confirmation in posts, performance appraisal. The study concluded that MoES would provide more time for the researchers when carrying on the study so as to meet the expected response rate of the researchers so as to be able to collect the required data for further studies in their areas of interest. The study recommended that MoES would create awareness amongst the workers on how to avoid the challenges caused by human error so as to reduce on effect of records wear and tear which is as a result of poor handling.
