    Abstract
The laboratory scale slow sand filter was designed successfully and its breakthrough time was 30 minutes, flow rate was o.6liters per hour. The filter box length was 35cm, sand bed was 21cm, gravel bed was 4cm and supernatant water layer length was 7cm. The flow rate was very low to increase the efficiency of the bacterial removal. On average, through purification, the PH was increased from 6 to 6.9. And the total dissolved solids were reduced from 762.50ppm to 66.25ppm Also the total bacteria on average was reduced from 258.50cfu to 66.25cfu, E. coli load also reduced from 10cfu to 0cfu and total coliform load was not detected in all the samples.
