dc.description.abstract | This study was performed to survey biosecurity measures utilized and the farmer’s responses in selected farms of Wakiso district (Lujji village). Nineteen farms rearing layer birds were visited, the selection was randomly done by myself.
The main methods which were used included observation, interviewing and also surveys there was a fair level of farmers 56% who had some knowledge about biosecurity practices to control diseases. The practices they were using included cleaning day old chick’s delivery trucks before getting in and of the farm because they can act as disease carriers, proper sanitation, use of protective gears etc.
The findings emanating from the study carried out in Lujji on 19 selected farms revealed that poultry farming is mostly dominated by males (68%).60% of the respondents had a tertiary form of education,
The biosecurity measures used in the selected farms in Lujji, Wakiso district which included putting on protective clothing, disinfecting visitors before entering farm premises, proper sanitation, proper liter management, working from the youngest flock to the oldest flock etc.
The farmers should seek advice from fellow farmers like Lujja John who are carrying out proper biosecurity measures and also recommended to attend different workshops where they can learn more on how to maintain the spread of diseases due to poor biosecurity measures | en_US |
