    Abstract
    The study assessed storage of personnel records at Uganda Prisons Service with Prisons Headquarters as the case study research design. Data was collected using interviews and observations and analyzed qualitatively. The objectives of the study were; to examine the types of personnel records, to identify storage system used, to find out challenges faced and to suggest ways of improving personnel records storage at Uganda Prisons Service. Findings revealed various types of personnel records stored at Prisons Headquarters that included; Employment Records, Wages and Salaries records, Training and development records, Health and Safety records and Service records. In the study some storage system used for personnel records at Uganda Prisons Service were identified. The challenges faced in storage of personnel records included: Inadequate funding, inadequate space, effects of Insects and Rodent, Inadequate storage facilities, Lack of: proper support from top management, departmental guiding policies, ready transport, trust and unfaithfulness, Conservatism and Lack of skilled personnel. Recommendations included; Allocation of funds, Regular spraying and general cleanliness of the records storage's, Provision of; adequate space, adequate modern storage facilities, transport means, Supporting records management programs, Developing and implementing policies and procedures, Cultivating trust and self-intimacy, Fighting conservatism and Establishing training programs for records staff.
