    Assessing the records filing system at Nakasero Hospital Limited

    Abstract
    Nakasero Hospital Limited admits and registers a lot of patients in a day therefore it creates a lot of records which needs to be filed for easy storage and quick retrieval. Therefore the study assessed records filing system at Nakasero Hospital Limited which reviewed literature on the types of records kept in at Nakasero Hospital Limited, the filing system of records at Nakasero Hospital Limited the challenges faced during the filing of records at Nakasero Hospital Limited and suggestions for improving the filing of records at Nakasero Hospital Limited. The major purpose of the study was to assess the records filing system at Nakasero Hospital Limited in order to propose better records management practices for effective operations. In the study different data collection techniques were used that is the interview, observation and document analysis accompanied by their tools that is the interview guides, document analysis guide and observation guide. The major findings of the study revealed that Nakasero Hospital Limited used majorly the manual records management system where most of the records were passed on hand to hand and information was kept in hardcopy paper files stored shelves and cabinets. It further revealed challenges facing the records filing system which included inadequate work space, inadequate trained staff, poor and inadequate filing equipment, mishandling and abuse of records, lack of records filing plan, misplacement of case files, improper filing of records among others. Therefore, to tackle the problems records filing must be taken into consideration as part of an integral records management function. Nakasero Hospital Limited is geared towards employing qualified personnel, increasing on the funds to the registry, training existing staff and proper filing of records. Furthermore, recommendations were made to improve on records filing and these were implementation of a records management policy, designing a records filing plan, enough work space and staff training. If the above are considered and catered for, Nakasero Hospital Limited will have a proper records filing system. .
