An investigation of fashion trends of the youth in Kampala in relation to originality and culture.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate fashion trends of the youth in Kampala in Nation to culture. The study emphasized trends in terms of originality and culture, Fashion in Uganda these days, especially Kampala, has adopted the Western culture and styles of dressing and design therefore authenticity is compromised in areas of the Dressing. And so, my areas of interest were in finding out the major influences of the common dress codes that is, the ongoing fashion trends and how culture relates to these trends.
Chapter one of the report is an introduction. Chapter two contains literature review from various sources on the tackled topic. Chapter three has got methodology, tools and techniques and chapters four and five are presentations of findings and conclusions.
The researcher used questionnaire, interview and direct observation techniques to collect data. The researcher collected data by visiting several libraries in Makerere for information from artefacts, magazines, journals, fashion blogs and visiting the internet for electronic versions of the information. Furthermore had interviews and conversations with people with experience in the area. The major conclusion from the data I collected therefore is that culture and authenticity has deteriorated in relation to fashion as the whole industry is majorly influenced to a bigger percentage by the Western world and what they produce in respect to Trends hence almost everyone is under the grip of trend without originality.
