A survey of the preservation of ITESO material culture.
Abstract
The study focused on the preservation of iteso material culture in kapir sub county Ngora district. the study was guided by the following objectives To establish and document the products and the local materials used in making of iteso material culture in kapir sub county Ngora district To find out and document the changes brought in by modernization on the iteso material culture To suggest ways of translating the local material culture to the posterity of kapir sub county To create both digital and text archives of the above for effective preservation to the posterity
The study used a descriptive survey design with both qualitative and quantitative approaches, Data was collected using observation, interviews, questionnaires, it was collected from the local dealers of art and crafts, grand elders and the posterity.
It was analyzed using frequency counts and percentages and content analysis for data 0btained from unstructured interviews. The study findings revealed that, the local material culture of iteso was on a drastic degradation due to impacts of industrial revolution which the posterity had adopted.
The study concluded that, iteso material culture was at a degradation decline hence a need for effective documentation and reservation to the posterity.
It was therefore recommended that, the material culture was an important aspect in any given society thus the posterity were argued to comprehend the values of the iteso material culture
