This project report introduces a Mobile based application for accessing and sharing fish farming information which provides all necessary information about fish for example fish feeds, fish type, rearing systems etc. The main objective of this study was to develop a Mobile based application for accessing and sharing fish farming information to fish farmers.
In this study we found out that aquaculture a sector in Uganda is a promising sector with a great potential to provide employment, contribute to the food supply and also contribute to the government's gross domestic product. However, this sector is faced by some challenges that have limited its potential growth in the country for example; The sector is affected by the poor fish farming practices, Poor fish feeds is also a problem and lack of proper markets which is greatly Associated to the lack of information among the fish farmers. Thus the introduction of Information technology as a recognized field to address the information gap issue was implemented by the group in developing a mobile based application for accessing and sharing fish farming information.
The system has been developed using Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) technique with stages ranging from requirements specification to validation of the system.
Information for system study was gathered using interview guides and questionnaires. Data Flow Diagrams (DFD’s), Flow charts, Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) and Enhanced Entity Relationship Diagram (EERD) were used in the design of the system.
The technologies that were used in the implementation of this system include PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), CSS (Cascading Sheets), Java, HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and MySQL for data Management.
