Provision of current awareness service in Bumbo secondary school library Namisidwa, Mbale.
Abstract
This project is about the provision of Current Awareness Service (CAS) in Bumbo Secondary
School Library, the objectives of the study were to identify the current awareness service, to
establish the status of ICT in the provision of Current Awareness service, to examine the
challenges in provision of Current Awareness Service and to formulate a strategy for the
provision of Current Awareness Service in the library.
The aim of study was to formulate the strategy for the provision of Current Awareness
Service in Bumbo Secondary School library, the strategy was formulated based on manual or
traditional and web based as required by respondents.
The study was rationalised by the gaps identified in the literature review that is provision of
Current Awareness Service in Bumbo secondary school library
The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative methods in collecting data, research
tools like interview guide, observation checklist, documentary guides were used to find
information regarding the project.
The findings of the study show that Current Awareness Service is very important because it
keeps librarian in line, updates users with Current development issues. The most Current
Awareness Service together provided are newspaper clipping, bulletin, display of new
capable of contents on the notice board, Facebook, twitter, interpersonal communications in
dormitories, organising meetings, Sms alerts, email alerts, routing of periodicals, newsletters,
mobile phones, alerting students on the assembly.
The strategy was formulated based on the findings in chapter and respondents’ views about
the most effective strategy, the researcher considered all respondents’ views designed a
strategy for all types of the CAS that they needed. The strategy for web based CAS like email
alerts, Facebook, sms, twitter, was formulated based on the web based components like
database, user bio data, updates,, document submission, response
The manual CAS strategy was formulated based on the methods the researcher found out in
chapter four
The last chapter shows the summary of the findings, conclusions drawn from the study and
the recommendations and areas of further researcher in Bumbo secondary school library.
